Biography

Pete Cypret is the chair of the Farm Credit System ERM Peer Group and Chief Risk Officer for Farm Credit of the Virginias, a $2.1B ACA whose territory encompasses counties in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. The CRO role at FCV includes responsibility for ERM, compliance, cybersecurity, quality control, analytics and project management.

Pete’s career in risk management spans over 20 years and includes roles for domestic and international commercial banks. Immediately before coming to Farm Credit in 2019, Pete worked as an executive risk manager for Australia’s largest retail bank, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Pete met his wife while working in Australia, and when their son was born they decided to move back to the US to give the family a life more like the one Pete enjoyed growing up on a cattle farm in the Ozarks. The family, which now includes two children aged 3 and 5, found that lifestyle in the beautiful blue-ridge mountains and in the values and purpose shared with Farm Credit’s staff and customer-owners.
